Back in the pilot’s seat – part 2

Continuing on from my disappointing trip to the Gojira research vessel, my next stop is the control station for the Tengu satellite array. If I’m lucky, I’ll find out where Kira is and get my revenge.

I arrive on the island, and in come two sentry mechs. These are those badass ones that look like tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell, but it turns out it’s a lot less cool to be on the receiving end of that artillery. We go for five rounds of artillery. We’re evenly matched, but there are two of them so it’s not so even after all; they tear my mech down from 32 armor to 20 armor before we even get into melee range. At that point, I have the advantage in close range and only take one more hit before I wreck them both. Still, things are not looking good – I’m down to 33% health and I know this is a very long book.

I get out of my mech and head into the control center, and find obvious signs that the place has been invaded and raided. There are dead security guards, trashed offices, and four ne’er-do-well types still skulking about. I try to sneak up on them, but it doesn’t work. I kill two in the narrative text, but the other two just cut me to ribbons. They knocked me from 21 endurance to 0 and I barely got a few good swings in. Alas, my adventure ends here in a puddle on the floor.

I’ve said before that this book is extremely hard, to a pint that I honestly do not believe it can be won. And here, on my twentieth attempt, I’ve shown it again. At some point soon I’ll just have to give up on playing this and just read it and map it.
