Kitchens to chasms (part 3)

Part 3 of my first playthrough of The Chasms of Malice. I’ve been injured, and killed a lot of people, and basically bumbled my way around in the dark until the magic sword told me that I am nearing the big boss fight. I am totally not ready for this, as I’ve only killed 1 lieutenant and haven’t improved nor acquired anything to tilt the odds in my favor.

The scene opens, with me trudging slowly in the dark, towards a sentry post, into the heart of the Chasms of Malice.

I am given two choices: just run for it and hope I can outrun any guards who notice, or sneak around the edge where there are some narrow cracks in the rock. I go for the stealthy path, … which was totally a trap. The ground gives way, dumping me into a water-filled pit. A band of orcs laugh about this, then put me to sleep with some weird animal that exudes knockout gas – huh?!?

I wake up in time for a macabre sport, in which they release me on the edge of a cliff with a network of trails heading downward, and also release some hungry gryphons, and tell me to run for my life. Oh dang! It’s like that one movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Richard Dawson! But to make it more awesome, these gryphons are said to be fire-breathing ones!

I start picking my way down the trails at random, left or right or left, and then a gryphon catches up with me. I kill the gryphon without taking a scratch, because I have a 10 Skill and they have 8. I admit, it was a bit disappointing that it didn’t even breathe fire. But my disappointment is brief: the rest of the paragraph is that an orc appears, and I have a 50/50 chance of being thrown from the cliff…

…which I am.

Splat!

My adventure ends here.
